“ I have been back time after time for baby massage classes for Billy and Bertie, then normal massages for me and my partner Luke.”

This type of massage can benefit all kinds of people – not just sports men and women. Deep Tissue uses techniques that works below superficial connective tissue to release old structural patterns and allow the free flow of nutrients and oxygen in the blood and so to the tissues themselves. It focuses on releasing the deeper myofascial restrictions of the deeper muscles, tendons and ligaments of the body. Deep Tissue Massage helps to free trapped nerves, oxygenate poorly circulated areas and allows the spine and joints to relax into alignment.
Deep Tissue Massage is great for people with stiff limbs, muscular tenderness and lack of flexibility. Although there are jokes about this kind of massage ‘pummelling’ the patient, I always make sure we work within the comfort zone to detect of stiff, knotted or painful areas and then release this chronic muscle tension through slow and deep strokes, with more direct pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles.
Soft Tissue Release is a combination of movement and manipulation by locking in to the relevant tissues, whilst simultaneously stretching and aligning muscle fibres – this is often a missing link in the treatment of tightness and restriction of muscles. Stretching is a technique to increase the client’s range of movement & flexibility by lengthening and reducing muscle tension.
Neuro-muscular techniques (NMT) is used to alleviate the most extreme tension – to reduce knots and adhesions. NMT is an extension of deep friction & pressure techniques and is applied with thumbs, fingers, fists or elbows, and is a diagnostic palpatory tool designed to help assess and deal with chronic pain.
Massage can become a way to explore oneself as it teaches us how it feels to become more relaxed and in tune with ourselves. I provide you with a unique opportunity to forget all of your worries and stresses, and live in that moment where the focus is solely on you.
Its estimated that approximately 75% of disease is causes by stress. In the short term stress can cause loss of appetite, insomnia and palpitations and if left untreated can cause chest pain, high blood pressure and migraines. In the long term, stress can cause serious health problems such as heart disease, strokes and angina.
Swedish and holistic massage is very effective in treating stress related conditions and can significantly reduce our stress levels by treating the body as a whole:
Skin – Improves elasticity, colour, tone and flexibility
Muscular – Removes lactic acid, thus reducing stiffness and muscle fatigue
Circulatory – Improves circulation, speeding up delivery of nutrients that we eat and oxygen and removal of waste
Nervous – Stimulates / relaxes the nerves, depending on techniques used
Lymphatic – Reduces cellulite / lumpiness, boosts immunity
